What You Should Expect With Your New Permanent Makeup

Your Office Visit

At your appointment we will go through a consultation which will include a small amount of paperwork, a discussion of your desires, style and needs, the ability for Permanent Make Up to improve your life, and a review of your medical history.

Standard of The Consultation and Visit

  • A "scratch test" may be given at this visit to test for any possible instant reactions of the pigment or topical that will be used. Please note that this just for immediate reaction, and does not clear for any future reactions. This will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
  • A Medical and procedure history form will be maintained on every client to ensure proper care and any future follow up visits.
  • Clients must sign consent forms before any procedure is done
  • Before and after photos must be taken on all cosmetic work for the clients record. The option for additional use of pictures such as for advertising purposes will be given for the client to approve or disapprove.
  • Client understands that each procedure involves two visits (The initial application of pigment and the Focus visit to "fine tune" areas needed for adjustment in shape and/or color).

You will also be instructed on the aftercare needed to ensure correct care is taken to look after your newly applied cosmetics. Before the application begins pre-procedure photographs may be taken. These photographs are taken for our records, they may also be used for portfolio's, your identity is kept completely confidential unless otherwise agreed upon.

Steps are taken to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure. Although everyone's tolerance levels are different, most clients agree that Permanent Make Up procedures are far more comfortable than anticipated. Every day new improvements are being made in the development of new topical anesthetics made specifically for the field of permanent cosmetics. Most of these will be applied 30 minutes to 1 hour before your procedure begins. Others may be used during the procedure to ensure your comfort.

After your procedure you will be given instructions once again in aftercare and post-procedure photographs may be taken. Please keep in mind that your permanent makeup will be darker and look more dramatic (and often "fake" looking"). After the healing (usually within 7-10 days) the color will soften and look more natural.

What You Can Expect During Your First Week of Your Permanent Makeup.

Your skin, body chemistry and some medications and supplements that you take can affect the final outcome of your permanent makeup.  If your skin is sun damaged (yes, even from tanning beds), have excessively thick and uneven in texture, dry or oily skin, the result cannot be expected to be perfect after the initial procedure. Please keep in mind that it is normal to have 2 (sometimes even 3 for lips) visits to achieve the desired result.  Scars on the lips (caused from fever blisters, burns, or cuts) cause pigment removal. Lifestyle, medications, smoking, metabolism, facial surgery, and age of skin all contribute to fading. Touchups are needed 3-4 weeks after your initial procedure to ensure the best result and to keep your permanent makeup looking the best. Your aftercare and future maintenance as described in your pre/post handout and during the consultation are very important in order to maintain proper color. Neglecting proper maintenance will result in your color fading faster than the average lifespan of PMU.

LIPS

What to Expect

Day 1

Swelling, tender, heavy thick lipstick look usually with a reddish brick color due to blood and body fluids. This color is MUCH darker than what it will heal to. The color will darken considerably the next day.

Day 2

Slight swelling, dark color and tender.  Lips will feel like they are sunburned. Lips may start to peel.

Day 3

Less swelling, thicker texture, sore, hot feeling before exfoliation with an orange-red color. Peeling should start on the lip area.

Day 4

Exfoliation continues, very chapped lips. Still tender. Liner will probably not peel at this day yet.

Day 5

Very chapped but almost finished with first chapping stage. Most of the lip will be peeled, and the lip liner will begin to peel

Day 6

A very soft, color begins to appear.

Days 7-13

Lip color disappears and the "frosty" (2nd chapping) stage begins as a whitish/grayish haze on the lips. This is due to the new skin growth (New Skin is opaque at first causing the “frosty look”.

Day 14

Color begins to bloom and they will get rosier in color. More and more color develops each day until day 21 (3 weeks post procedure).

Day 21

Most of your healing is complete.  Some people may take a longer time to develop the actual healed color depending on the health of the lip tissue. The color you see is the color you have. However, lips remain a bit dry for a month or two. Use a good lip balm and they will return to normal but with color!

EYELINER

What to Expect

Day 1

Most eyes are swollen, like you had a good cry. The eyeliner will also look thick.

Day 2

Swollen, usually for a few hours after waking up, with the heavier eye makeup look continuing.

Day 3

Swelling decreases with a tight feeling due to the healing of the skin. The pigment may begin to lift away from the skin, but usually happens on day 4.

Day 4

There is a "crusty" feeling. Some itching is normal as the skin begins to flake and heal.

PLEASE DO NOT PICK AT IT.

Day 5

Blinking movements of the eye usually removes all pigment by this day. Color is somewhat grayish and will take a few more days to clarify to full color due to new skin overlaying the pigmented area. When skin heals, it will become translucent.

EYEBROWS

What to Expect

Day 1

The eyebrows are approximately 25% darker and bolder and are also thicker in width than they will be when healed. Your skin will be red under the pigment for a few days. Do not panic that the color is red!!! This causes the color of the pigment to appear darker. There may be some swelling, although difficult to actually see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside. Exfoliation, which begins in a few days, will cause the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow procedure to flake away and a more narrow appearance will result. New skin will heal over the pigmented area and result in a softer appearance of your eyebrows. Don't be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size than you desire. This is all part of the process.

Day 2

Conditions remain the same. Swelling will be minimal if at all.

Day 3

Eyebrows start to itch and will appear a bit thicker in texture. Exfoliation begins.

Day 4

The skin continues to flake – usually peeling from the outside edges first.

Day 5

Color finishes flaking off and appears softer and grayer due to new skin growth for a few days until color clarifies.
